Comic page process for Date Night (NSFW)

I'm busy working on my new comic, Date Night, so I thought I'd show my process from thumbnails to finished page! The page I'm going through is NSFW fyi.

I'm a visual person by nature, so when I start a new comic, I go straight to thumbnails. I thumbnail the entire comic, and THEN write down the script. I usually do 4 thumbnails to a regular page(and draw them in backwards order because I'm left-handed and don't want to smudge them).

I might do a number of different thumbnails before I'm happy with the flow and pacing, then write down all the actions and dialogue before I forget what I had in mind and have to go go back and read my handwriting or try to figure out what I was doing with the doodles. These two pages turned into three when I was transitioning to the next phase.

150th comic!

Oh hey! It's still 11:50 so this counts as a Wednesday post! I'm starting to like Brother Rabbit and Acquaintances. It's silly and creepy and sad and funny. Does anyone else like it? Too bad cause they're gonna be here for the rest of November! MWAHAHAHA!

But seriously, does anyone like it? I'm especially wondering about the fonts.

150th COMIC WOOOOO!

So yeah, comic 150. I feel like I should have done more hullabloo at 100, but whateves man. To celebrate, I wanted to share with you my favorite comics of the past! Take a gander f you haven't gandered at all of them before!

My first daily comic in all it's pencily rough glory. I actually really like it because it had more of a crazy indy slice of life feel rather than a gag a day feel. I should do more like this.

One of the first ones I did with pen. I like how I did the hair and wind, also the joke is pretty simple.

This had a weird surrealist feel since I didn't feel like drawing the full body. Plus it makes me laugh. That's the important thing.

The first appearance of Brother Rabbit! I really like he style I went with and how I started to experiment with panel size and borders.

Wow, one of my many cop-out comics(I should definitely do a series of those). I like how curvy I drew myself.

I think this is where my faces started to not suck. Also, there is still a complimentarian party on facebook. Which strangely has 29 members. Awesome.

One of my first Dumgen & Draggins comics! Man, I kind of miss those. I need to play more D&D though.

This looks nice. I should do more stuff like this.

Even though this was fairly recent, I think this is my favorite hero. The costume came out nice, and the pose is just classic.

Man I love screwing up pickup lines on purpose. I could do alot more with this one too. Technically this is 2 comics back to back because I won't be able to do one tomorrow.

hipster zombie 02 and backgrounds

Man I hope you guys enjoy these hipster zombies because they've kinda become my go-to material for when it's late and I don't feel like doing a full 500 panel comic.

Also, I've decided it's now background week, which means I have to force myself to do a buttload of backgrounds! I know I've said this before, but look! I already started!

I sketched this from a "House" magazine. The perspective is probably off because I forgot my ruler(straight lines, my one weakness).
I think I might take out a home and gardens magazine out of the library and copy the crap out of it. I need to really get into drawing details and perspecitve and such if I wanna get any farther with Rickety Rat and the many many comics I want to start creating.

MUSTACHE POWERS ACTIVATE.

Yeah, I have a mustache now, as requirements for a friend's mustache party. I'm really hoping it doesn't look too hipster. That would fill me with a rage.

Man, that was a really bad movie. I did hear someone almost clap. I could rant about that all night long.

So I will!

I read all of the reviews and I knew it would be bad, but nothing could have prepared me for the horrendous pile that was this movie. And no one mentioned they intentionally mispronounced the names! Honestly, what's the reasoning behind that? It's not like they didn't know the correct pronunciation as if it were adapted from a book, and what would they have to gain from changing it? As if the mainstream audience wouldn't except his name is pronounced Aang? All they're doing is further pissing off the already built in fanbase of the show.

"Ong"? Seriously? In what language would aa make an "o" sound? I think that's what hurt the most. It's so simple and yet stings so much. It's like someone you just met mispronounces your name after you say it to them. I was waiting for someone to walk up to the little bald kid and go, "Hey, it's pronounced AANG bitch."

And speaking strictly from a movie standpoint, the storytelling was poor, the writing and dialogue were terrible, and the action sequences were just wasteful. It felt like he was trying to be Zack Snyder but failed.

But why should I have all the fun of dissing the movie. What did you hate most about it?

Kamikaze

Ok, so maybe I didn't freak out that much, but honestly, when's the last time a bee just ricocheted off your chestal area randomly? I'm so glad I don't have boobs now. Imagine it getting stuck! That would be brutal.

But honestly, I really do have too many clothes. Especially t-shirts.

weird dream

Don't you hate when you wake up from a dream only to realize later that was a dream too? Yeah man. Although, I don't think I've ever dreamed anything that trippy.

RPD Gang

Man, not getting a bite from the comic bug this week. But, I did do a lot of sketching for the upcoming RPD heroes comic(and by upcoming, I mean sometime between now and eternity). Here's a sketch of the whole team if they all had superhero tights! Sure, this could work from a design standpoint, but a few of them don't really NEED tights. I think I'd rather go with an avengers "Band of Misfits" look rather than an X-men "shared color scheme" look.

Also, I bust my ass on the rickety animation and I have 3 followers, I spend an hour MAYBE a day on this and I get 7 followers. STORY OF MY LIFE.

I'm just kidding. This took 10 minutes.

LolaFuerte!

So yeah, I didn't have any good ideas for a normal comic today, so I just did some practice sketches of LolaFuerte© beating up some guy. She's one of the heroes in my upcoming RPD Heroes comic (name still in development). Who's the nameless henchman? All will be revealed in time (by me, later).

Considering whether to go with the "super suit" look or the "t-shirt and boyshorts" look. Leaning towards the supersuit because there's no way a t-shirt is indestructible. It could lead to some very embarrassing "costume malfunctions when bullets or giant lasers are fired.

Self-Doubt gets it

A special strip celebrating Joe Hunter's early Birthday (on Sunday)! If you don't know about him (he's on my links list to the left, Journalin Comix), he does a daily comic like me, except his illustrations are actually good. Very sleek and simple. I hear he's also doing a graphic novel. You should check him out!

how to make a daily comic

Man, if I had a huge fan base, they'd be shitting squirrels over this comic. Not only is it one of my biggest comics, it's also a throwback to a bunch of previous comic designs! And, yes, that is the exact drawing process for me.

Oh, and for those who don't know, DDO, or Dungeons and Dragons Online is free MMO. It's actually pretty fun, and I think I might be getting sucked in. I'm fairly certain though I won't turn into one of those fat shutins because every time I try to get farther in the game I get mauled by Kobolds. Or Orcs. or Spiders. Or random guys with knives. SO MUCH FUN.

You're talented! Why don't you have a job?

Y'know, someone reading these comics would probably get the idea that I talk to different women all the time. How wrong they would be.

Anyways, I've been reading a number of drawing books and trying to improve my skillz(pronounced skillz), so if there's a noticeable change in style, AWESOME!

I probably won't have a comic up tomorrow(but maybe I will!) as I'll be attending my friend Sean's band, Pretend Mad, at their premiere performance tomorrow all the way up in Yonkers. They totally rock and I totally designed a logo for them. You should go up there and buy a T-shirt from them for these very reasons.

Political Party

That's right! Join the National Complimentarian Party today! Don't wanna join? Well I'm sure you're still swell people. But look at the advantages! Never talk about politics with anyone ever again! After they ask what party you're in, immediately segue into a compliment! You're welcome people who hate getting into ridiculous political discussions!

Different Versions of Me and the secrets of Lost but not really

So most days I look like a werewolf pirate hobo. True story. If you're observant, you'll see I made a few changes to the blog! I added a list of all the webcomics I like (you should go read all of them now) and I made a separate page for free useful programs you might find useful. I thought this is good information to know (if you have any other free useful programs I can add to the list, tell me!). I'll probably add an about page or something orother soon too.

Hey, did you see the end to Lost? Wasn't it crazy when that thing happened and that guy did stuff? Yeah I totally know. I thought it was a pretty good ending but I would have done it differently. Which I will explain to you right now!

WARNING. FAKE SPOILERS AHEAD.

So in my version, after Jack would have become the new Jaccob, he, smokey, Desmond and Richard find their way down to the heart of the island and find some sort of electromagnetic nexus (Or something that scientifically explains the dharma project, electromagnativity, etc). Desmond and Richard accidently fall in and get obliterated, which causes a chain reaction and Jackob and Un Loche duke it out. It looks like UnLocke has the upperhand but the Ben comes out of nowhere and sacrifices himself to save Jackob. Jackob defeats the UnLocke but he's mortally wounded and the island is falling apart. He tells the others to get to safety while he stays and dies with the island.

They all get to the plane and are trying to get off, but it's not working. Then finally they take off, only to get pulled back down from the massive exploding electromagnetic nexus. The plane crashes, and the island sinks to the bottom of the sea.

Suddenly in the side universe, all the characters are at the concert and simultaneously get the flashbacks and all sort of remember at once (instead of individually) their lives on the island. Then they have all the teary eyed reunions and Sawyer goes to Jack and says, "Son of a bitch, it worked." Then they all see Desmond standing there smiling like he knew all along, with Richard by his side. They're all happy (INCLUDING WALT AND MICHAEL) and go about their respective lives).

Then in the last five minutes, we see Jaccob and The man in Black sitting at a coffee table in a cafe with a game of backgammon. Jaccob says, "See ____ (finally telling us the guys name), I told you they could do it." Man in black says, "Yeah, I almost had you. You win this game. But next time, you'll have to watch out." Blackout.

That was my little fan fiction for the night. But that's just my take. How would you have ended it?
